Yes, the Indian Removal Act was harsh on the Native Americans. President Jackson was justified in moving them (and ultimately killing them). He did what was "necessary and proper" in order to protect the southern farmers.
President Truman killed many more people in the bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, bombs that were never needed. The Japanese would have surrendered anyway. The United States just wanted to impress and scare the Soviet Union.
President Bush is killing so many more in Iraq....

I think Jackson was wrong because he went back on what he had originally stated in his 1st Inaugural Address. He had said that the Native Americans should be granted their rights and wants. He also promised liberal treatment. Now, he is separating them from others and kicking them out.

I think that the Indian Removal Act was justified. Jackson did not go to far with this Act. The Indians were not an asset to the country. Jackson didn't even kick them out of the country which he very well could have done. He simply just moved them west, due to the danger they brought on by not "fitting in" with the communities. The Native Americans were useless to the economy meanwhile they lived on 100 million acres of fertile land. The Native Americans should have understood the by removing them it was going to help the country.

I think the Indian Removal act could have happened in a less harsh manner and that could have prevented the deaths of many Native Americans. Its not right how Jackson did it and was wrong when he called them savages but he was justified when he wanted them to leave.

President Jackson did exactly as he should have in removing the Indians. It is the president's job to represent the interests of the people of the United States, not of the Native Americans. Removing the Native Americans gave land and natural resources. This would be beneficial to the majority of the country's population. The president should use any means necessary to better protect the interests of the people of the U.S., even if it has an extremely negative impact on another country.
